Israel and the Reformation

 He who struggles (and prevails) with God, "prince" is in there as well. So, this plus the discovery that Jesus goes to plays--the question is why wouldn't the Enlightenment result?

The reformation was not primarily about justification by faith but rather about justification. God justifies. He makes right what is wrong and this fructified in the assurance of the reformers that God had opened up the Bible through the Holy Spirit and would keep doing this!

The Israel of God

 This is not supersessionism. Nor is this:

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

Rather, Paul is doing two things: 1) referencing "not my people" and the entire story that goes along with that
2) giving hope to the people of the nations, assuring them that the promises to Israel are for them as well.

Memorial--June 14, 2024

זכר memorial

Exo 3:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Mar 14:9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her." 14:9 ἀμὴν δὲ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅπου ἐὰν κηρυχθῇ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον εἰς ὅλον τὸν κόσμον καὶ ὃ ἐποίησεν αὕτη λαληθήσεται εἰς μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς Mar 14:9

 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her." 26:13 ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅπου ἐὰν κηρυχθῇ τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦτο ἐν ὅλῳ τῷ κόσμῳ λαληθήσεται καὶ ὃ ἐποίησεν αὕτη εἰς μνημόσυνον αὐτῆς First, we should consider that "amen" is here. It's not "truly."

 (Numbers 5) בֶּטֶן וְלַנְפִּל יָרֵךְ וְאָמְרָה הָאִשָּׁה אָמֵן אָמֵן Note this: 1Ch 16:36 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!" Then all the people said "Amen!" and praised the LORD.
